Greetings Barlovians! It's nice to see that Juan Webmaster Cordova has our BarloWeb protected like Fort Knox - with two password stop points.
Just a quick note to mention that I have 2 new CD compilations 'Love Songs' & 'The Blues' available internationally (attention Leo A.) at http://www.mp3.com/JPC each at a great price. Thanks to all for getting "Married Man Blues" to #32 on the Blues Vocals Chart.
Best to everyone - John C.

Well, it does seem that no one is looking up our website lateley! Perhaps it's time for another newsletter to go out. As an update for me, I have written a few more songs; the titles are, besides, Haven't a Clue, Nowhere, I See You There and Good Friends. I am in the process of recording my own CD's and anyone interested can e-mail me for a copy. I have to point out though(as if you didn't know) that my singing still needs some practice or training, not necessarily in that order!!
I have to say that this is something I've really gotten into as a hobby and I have submitted three of my songs to various songwriting contests going on at the moment. I will let you know if anything comes out of it.
Anyway, I hope you are all in good health and have a great Labor Day Weekend, despite the not so great weather going on in various areas.
Be well,
Jon

Greetings Barlovians, I'm back in L.A. for a while and am working on catching up with the site. I have several additions to the Alumni List and I will be adding graduation years (the ones I know). I also have pictures from Naomi Solomon Friedman and Sally Crocker Seamans to post. There are also other enhancements I will be working on. All of the above will happen gradually, as my time permits... so keep checking back. In the meantime, keep the posts coming, don't let the Board languish!!
In the bad news column, we have lost some messages from the Board again. I had the majority of them backed up and have re-posted them in the Message Archive, but a few (from July 23 to 26, 2000) are missing. If anyone has a copy please send them to me so I can complete the archive. ~J. Cordova

I feel like I hit the motherlode here. The rocks are pelting on my foggy brain pan. I feel disabled somehow because I can recognize your names but I can't recognize ypur pictures. I am so sorry that I missed this gathering. The closest I have been to Barlow is Texas , Until this year. I was commissioned to do a job at this Billionaires house in Brewster( I been building a Library with a group of Austin artists. I still dream of that train ride by those reservoirs on the way to Amenia. It gave me the opportunity to see the school. I felt out of it that day and it felt so lonely and god , what architectural monstrosities did they create!
You know, Barlow was such a good school. I am looking for school for my son and it hurts to do the comparisons. I miss all of you , even the faces that i have lost the names for.

At last! Remnants and Remains of Barlow!!!! Searchin' for some classmates led me here. I was at Barlow for a while in the early sixties...Fave memories? Lots, but the Cantina and all those goodies was a special oasis...anyone know whatever happened to the two gals that ran it? Vickie Rosenfeld and (I don't remember the other's name)?? I still owe Vickie for the tab she let me run up in my last week there, and I'd love to repay the kindness now that I have more$$$$

Bob, I was thinking that if the long of the short of it were at a length that was lengthy but not too much out and if you were slightly above what you were getting at without being too below the subject, then perhaps in time, that being somewhat irrelevant to the space, you would find the substance of what you were actually talking about!
YOU THINK!!!??????????

Eric! Bingo!
So clearly and succinctly put. Containing all the pertinent info. and conveying most precicely the very same concept!
But then what am I to do with all of my fun references and fancy footnotes?
I must admit my philosophical bent got the better of me (as it too often does) and got somewhat bent out of shape in the process. ... Does this mean you don't want to know all the tastey tidbits my footnotes were extra chockfull of? (The ending there gives me pause: "...full of." as in 'full of it.')

Jeez, Bob, was all of that left over from a term paper?
Find me a fifty year old who doesn't wax nostalgic over the flower of his, or her, youth and I'll show you an ex-con!

Well, Bob, now I know why I just barely graduated Barlow! Don't know what the hell you're talking about, but hey, I never did understand those deeeeeeep meaning sonatas anyway! All I know is I had one hell of a time there for the four years going and wouldn't trade it for the world! So, onward into the future we go, doo da doo da..........

Well, it looks like I've already had a couple of volunteers, so thanks. Of course, I'd still love to hear from you anyway, so check in if you feel the urge.

I wonder if I could trouble one of my classmates to make a photocopy of the yearbook for 1966. I lost mine back in the early 70's, in one of my many moves. If you're willing, let me know by e-mail and I'll get back to you.
Sorry I missed the party. Next time I'll be there.
Thanks and best to all.

Actually Bob, if we deny the reality of time (which maybe is appropriate given some of these thoughts about the reunion), either version of the quote will work. But mentioning recapitulation reminds me of a friend of mine who is a musician who suggested that perhaps the form of the sonata reflected the pattern of life and that middle age is the recapitulation. This sounded plausible to me because I sometimes think middle age certainly feels like a recapitulation of adolescence, with the possible exception that one is more aware of what is happening this time around.

Drat! Yet another minor dyslexic disaster: I mistyped that last bit should read: the intensity of the experience now, reflects the intensity of then.
Also I was supposed to work in: Yevtushenco "I am a part of all that I have met, but all of me is mine." In his rather rehtorical(sp?) and practically prosaic autobiography.
Did I even spell his name right?
oops! sorry.

Dear friends,
(most especially Walter and Sharon at this particular point in space/time)
If I may add my two cents worth. Would you consider the following:
Keep in mind that "Ontogeny recapitulates phylogeny" Use, if you will, the nice broad encompasing view of 'development' that this suggests. We know that the earliest developmental stages are the most critical.[1] Few would disagree, certainly not Freud himself (S. in this case). We know this many ways, perhaps even instictively, in our general acceptance of Wordsworth's "The Child is the father of the Man." Can we then say, by analogy, that adolescence is the infancy of the adult self. (c.f. Anna Freud 'Adolecence' [2]) Not withstanding the ample evidence available to Heraclitus, first among all the rest of us, that "Everything flows and nothing stays," must we not nevertheless agree with Karr ('ma cher Alphonse') still that "the more things change, the more they stay the same." So that ultimately we may conclude with some certainty that: the intensity of the experience then, reflects the intensity of the experience now. And, if you will allow, 'Quod Erat Demonstrandum'

Yes, Sharon, you DO think alot; so much that you posted your thoughts twice!!! But that's okay. But that's okay! Whoops a bit repetitious there!
As for me, I just feel like I've been brought back to a family that once was and still is! Now let that sink in folks! Hope you're all having a great summer. Mine's been pretty unique so far. Oh, and JGRS, whereever you are (and don't try to correct any of my spelling here), may piece........uh, no, hmmmmm, oh, may peace be with you.... and if you get a piece, well so much the better! Ciao all!

Though one way of thinking of it is that there is a part of us that is eternally the same, there is something else that is related to this that I have come away with. I have this sense of continuity and connection...that I am who I was and connected to all those I have known and they to me. And maybe an even more important discovery...that pieces of my life that seemed as though they were lost are not lost at all, still real, still with me. The past is somehow more present and I find this immensely comforting. It's not all nostalgia I think, but also I find myself going forward with a new optimism and pleasure in th
