The Barlow Family
June 1999

Okay everyone, this is my first attempt to print a newsletter for those of us that went to Barlow School back in the 60’s and 70’s.

I hope to expand this as I get more input from all of you out there. This wouldn’t be doable without the great new technology of the Internet.

As for myself I have had a roller coaster kind of life so far with a number of different career changes as some of you already know.

So, what I will ask from you all is any updates on anyone you may know from our classes that is not listed in this first newsletter so I can update it as we go. You can e-mail me at JLBGOOD @aol.com or mail it to me at:
11 Island Hill Avenue
Ridgefield, CT 06877-4007 (always loved that last part of my zip code!)
Oh, and my phone number is 203-431-6189.
Always love to hear from you as well. Now, so far I have heard from or spoke to the following people:

Leopold Auersperg(still see him on occasion in Austria)
Ron Nierenberg
Mark Davis
Willy Kaye
Marc Lefkovics
Lou Fishback
Simon Bunyard
Michael Haig (alohoa!)
Kathryn Weill
Alexis Clark
Scott Dufault
Jean Bennett
Eric Landers (after all he IS my brother!)

I also have information on the following:

Claudia Raab
David Morel
David Haig (aloha to you too!)
Chris Haig (ditto!)
Scott Brown
Paul Stamler
Eric Blaushild
John Kornblee

I must also report some sad news on some of those that have passed away recently (within the last few years):

Monica Burns
Susan Leary
Claudia Praeger

If you have any additional information on anyone you may know that has passed away, pehaps we should add them here as well, but I want your input on this category first.

I will be attaching a list of addresses and phone numbers along with any e-mail addresses I get with this and future newsletters for you all to have.

I will e-mail this newsletter to those of you that have e-mails and mail the rest out to you by Pony Express (or was that first class mail?)

Don’t be shocked, but below I’ve decided to add a photo of me for an update; my freinds now call me Coppertop (wonder why?)

For the record, the reason I decided to call this newsletter
The Barlow Family is that, for me, I felt that the years spent at Barlow was really like being with one big family.
Of course, we all didn’t get along with each other perfectly, but what family does!?! We all have different personalities and that’s what makes us all unique, but we all had the same dreams and goals to succeed in life and what better place to learn that!

I also want to be able to print additional photos of you all, including family, if you wish for us all to see. So, please either e-mail or send me what ever you would like to submit for the next and future newsletters. I could add one from my experience this year at Woodstock ‘99, but for some it might be offending, so I’ll do it on an individual request basis only over the internet or by mail if you’re interested. Some of you already got it and that’s fine. It was simply a perk I did for myself after my recent divorce. I also did it to get up to date on some of the latest musical artists.

And thank you Alexis for getting me John Comptons phone number. He has been the hardest one to locate over anywho.com so far.
Have you any idea how many John Comptons are in this country?????!!!

Naturally, for most of the female population from Barlow, it’s that much tougher to locate classmates if they are married, remarried or simply unlisted in this huge universe of ours.

Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.
I would also like to have you all send in little bios of what you’re doing now and what you’ve been doing over the past 30 years or so. I will add as much of this to the newsletter that I feel is enough to read at one time.

I will also want to get feedback from you on the content and format of this newsletter, since it is my first attempt and I’m always open for criticism to make this a more enjoyable reading experience.

The last thing I want to mention is the possibility of planning another reunion at the Barlow campus or perhaps just somewhere centrally located for all of us to meet. Ideally it would be nice to go back to the campus which is still there. I’ve been back several times in the last few months and I can report that it still looks great with the exception of that big new monstrosity of a dorm at the top of the hill. It takes getting used to. And, of course, the White House is no longer there; Just trees I’m afraid.

Perhaps the milenium is a good time to meet again; the year 2000 seems to have a meaning to it for us all. Let’s see what can be done to arrange it.

Between now and the end of this year I will try to put together as much new information as my time permits.

Since I have started a new career in real estate, I do need to build on my client base since I only get paid when I sell or get referrals.

So if anyone out there is planning a relocation move outside the state of Connecticut or another move in Connecticut, please let me know.

In my original draft of this newsletter I was going to give you a brief but lengthy bio of my last 30 years, but I‘ve decided to save that for when I get to see or talk with you all.

Basically, I have two great teenage daughters: Samantha at 16 years old and Stephanie at 13 going on 14 by the end of this month.

I also have some photos of the Barlow campus in my pc, if anyone would like to get e-mailed with these, just let me know.

On the next page, I will list all the people I have compiled so far from my research, which only started last week. Not bad for such a short time!
